About the Founder

Cheryl Moran, the founder and driving force behind StartFresh, has dedicated over twenty-five years to changing lives. Her journey in the employment services sector began as a Life Skills Educator, evolved into a role as a Job Developer, and further expanded when she became a Senior Job Developer, Wage Subsidy Program Manager, Computer School President, Security Guard Training Academy Director, Executive Director, CFO, and CEO.

As an alumnus of Empire State University, Cheryl studied Administration in Human Services in 2000 and embarked on an entrepreneurial path. She established her first StartFresh company in 2002, initially focusing on Life Skills services for a private Home Health Aide company. This venture quickly grew into a comprehensive employer-based contract, turning StartFresh into the primary recruitment source for the company and facilitating the direct training and employment of over 5,000 Home Health Aides.
In 2004, Cheryl expanded her vision by opening StartFresh Not for Profit Services. Over two decades, she successfully managed both entities. Under the not-for-profit banner, she initiated a range of impactful programs, including a Computer School, a Security Academy, job readiness, and employment placement programs. A highlight of her work includes the annual Holiday Program, distributing over $15 million in toys to more than 10,000 children.

StartFresh also established an Emergency Crisis Fund, offering immediate financial assistance for urgent needs such as utility bills, rent arrears, travel expenses for exchange students, and professional license fees. This unique program directly addressed emergencies with funds generated through service contracts.

With her extensive experience for example in the foster care, family court, and criminal court systems, Cheryl has taken her experiences and turned them into a purpose by designing programs that tackle many of the barriers to employment. Under her guidance, StartFresh has touched countless lives by becoming a hub for employment, training, emergency assistance, and holiday joy.
